The Dupont ANC's Transportation and Public Infrastructure Committee is meeting this Wednesday, June 25th at 7pm at the Dupont Circle Resource Center.

Below are the agenda and the minutes of the last meeting. Of note, we'll be discussing parking in the neighborhood and we'll begin to discuss possible solutions around the following identified parking problem statements:

  • Residents have difficulty securing parking privileges for recurring visitors, such as home health aides, contractors, and nannies.
  • Residents have difficulty finding parking within a reasonable distance of their homes.
  • There are parking spaces, both public and private, in our neighborhood that are underutilized. This could be due to a lack of awareness of private parking options, unnecessary restrictions in place, or poor utilization of multi-use parking, among other reasons.
  • Businesses often have difficulty guaranteeing parking availability for their patrons.

You can read about our committee goals for 2014 HERE.  I hope to see you all on Wednesday!

The Dupont Circle ANC is having its regular on Wednesday June 11 at 7pm at the Brookings Institution (1775 Massachusetts Ave NW). The agenda is available for download HERE.

Of note for 2B09 residents are the following items:

  • Request #ABRA-086789 by Penthouse Pool & Lounge (Vida Fitness), 1612 U St NW, for substantial change for: lateral expansion (to include 4th floor) and entertainment endorsement (DJ and live music) with hoursSun-Thur 6pm- 12am, Fri-Sat 6pm-1am. Petition Deadline 7/7/14; Roll Call Hearing7/21/14. (2B08) (10 mins)

  • Request #ABRA-095296 by Yamas Mediterranean Grill, 1946 NH Ave NW, for DR (restaurant, beer and wine only) for Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, no entertainment. Hours of operation Sun-Wed6:30am-11:30pm, Thu-Sat 6:30am-2:00am; Hours of sales/service/consumption Sun-Thu8am-11:30pm, Fri-Sat 8am-12am; Hours of sidewalk cafe Sun-Sat 10am-10pm. Petition due 7/7/14; Roll Call Hearing 7/21/14(2B08) (10 mins)

  • Initial presentation of an addition to the rear of 1504 Swann St NW. HPRB and BZA votes to occur in July. (2B09) (10 mins)

I am very concerned about how close VIDA's proposed roof deck entertainment would be to residents, especially those in 2B08 and 2B09. I'm also concerned about the proposed hours, which is later than normal outdoor hours in our neighborhood. My colleague, Will Stephens has been working with VIDA to try to find some solution for neighbor's concerns over late night noise. I will not vote to support anything in this case that would contribute to the late night noise issue around this establishment.

At the meeting, I will also be presenting progress from the Transportation and Public Infrastructure Committee, which I chair. Check back here for more updates.

Last month we set our goals for 2014 (available in the minutes of the April meeting) and I am extremely excited to report on our progress. We will spend much of our time discussing:

  • Developing parking problem statements so we have clear goals in mind
  • The ANC2B parking survey
  • Identifying the process to expand on-street recycling

We've also added a specific parking consideration that was brought to our attention by a resident of 2B05. The Presidential Condominium is requesting our support to include their block in the Residential Parking Program. Its an interesting topic and I think the committee is the perfect place for the discussion.

I hope to see you on Thursday evening!
