Someone should really fix that...

You’re walking through the neighborhood and notice a streetlight out or graffiti on a building wall – who do you call to get it taken care of? At my ANC Commissioner orientation in early 2013, the District Department of Transportation provided a great handout on which DC agency is responsible for maintenance of certain parts of our neighborhood infrastructure.

Though specific issues may require finding the right person at these agencies, your best bet is to call 311 or download the 311 app on your  smartphone. Uploading pictures through the app seems to get the issue to the front of the line.

The new ANC Transportation and Public Infrastructure Committee, which I chair, will help to coordinate a
neighborhood-wide response to common issues such as sidewalk conditions, trash and beautification. There’s still a chance to put your name in for appointment to that committee, which the ANC will vote on at our April 9th meeting.

As always, if you notice something awry in the neighborhood, you can send me an email and I’ll be happy to find the right person to address it.

Its finally here! The long anticipated opening of Trader Joe's at 1914 14th St NW is Friday March 21st.

Please join TJ's management, Councilmember Jack Evans and me for a ribbon cutting tomorrow a few minutes before the doors open at 9am.

Trader Joe's will welcome their first customers and the folks at The Wydown - a great coffee joint opening permanently next door in May - will be passing out coffee in the morning.

So beat the afternoon rush, shop early, and come welcome our newest grocery store to the neighborhood. I hope to see you there!

At its regular meeting on March 12 the Dupont Circle ANC voted unanimously to establish a standing committee on transportation and public infrastructure. I am honored to serve as its chair for 2014.

You can read more about the role and scope of the TPI Committee here.

My colleagues expressed great interest in serving on the committee and the following were voted in as members:
  • Kevin O'Connor, 2B02
  • Kishan Putta, 2B04
  • Mike Silverstein, 2B06
  • Will Stephens, 2B08

NOW WE ARE SEEKING PUBLIC MEMBERS

Before setting an agenda for the committee, we need full membership and input from the public. I invite any 2B residents or business owners to contact me to discuss joining this new committee and improving the transportation system and public spaces in our neighborhood.

The committee will likely meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7pm, though we may not meet every month. At every meeting there will be an opportunity for any 2B community member to bring issues and ideas to the committee.

I look forward to hearing from folks interested in becoming committee members for 2014. We'll nominate and vote on committee members at our April 9th ANC meeting and then host our first TPI meeting on April 23rd. Thanks!

Proposing a New ANC Standing Committee on Transportation and Public Infrastructure

Tomorrow (Wednesday March 12) at our monthly ANC meeting I will introduce a motion to create and chair a new standing committee on transportation and public infrastructure.

Even before my 2012 election, I was hearing from neighbors that transit, parking, traffic and public space are top concerns that actually impact their day-to-day lives.

The new Transportation & Public Infrastructure (TPI) Committee will help to coordinate the many great transportation activities ANC2B has ongoing and will provide a more formal opportunity for neighbors to bring transportation issues to the attention of their elected representatives.

The committee is also intended to be a resource for Commissioners and to liaison with other ANCs, DDOT, WMATA and WASA. To read my full proposal, click "download" below and let me know what you think!
