One or more armed robberies occurred near 14th St last night after 11pm. Police were chasing a suspect through the neighborhood on foot including on 15th Street and T Street and the surrounding alleys. Gunshots were exchanged in the chase. The suspect eventually died on Caroline St and the circumstances of the death are still under investigation. I've been assured this is an isolated incident and streets will reopen as soon as possible. I've asked the Commander to continue to update us on the circumstances as he learns more.
Like many of you, I was awoken by the sirens. This is a very unsettling and scary situation and I'm so sorry it is happening to each of you literally so close to home. This morning, we can be thankful that no officers or bystanders were injured here and we can be extremely grateful for our Third District officers who again put their own lives on the line to protect us.
I'll be available all day on my cell phone if anyone needs anything and continue to update this page.
